Podgy Wilberforce from Madame Tussaud’s thought Daff was joking when she said the Toff didn’t want to “be born again.” Something in the Honorable Richard Rollison’s kempt smile sent the beautiful wax cosmetician into a Daffodil rage, a fury truly her own. “A somewhat tempestuous young woman," the Toff’s man Jolly surmised in precautionary tones. Among the gray-white, draped and undraped wax figures in the Tussaud workshop was a cast with one eye socket hideously scorched — the Toff’s. Then Daff disappeared. Leaving four arty and exceedingly uncooperative roommates who occupied their time by making unflattering—a lesser gentleman would have called them malicious — caricatures of the Toff. Why? And why the threats of arson that began to spring up at the museum? Heads would roll at Madame Tussaud’s — if they did not burn first
