"Sarah Buhrman masterfully weaves the mythos of the Norse Pantheon into the chaos that is the modern world with exceptional care... realistic magic, authentic mythology, horrific monsters, and heroes." –Kyrja, author of the *Gatekeeper's Choice series * **Nicola was never a hero. She was an everyday single mother, Heathen witch, and herbalist. She was happy with her quiet life until the night Joseph showed up at her door with news that her step-sister joined a cult… and she had gone missing. Pressured by family loyalties, Nicola goes back to Indianapolis, dodging old enemies and calling on old friends to help her find her step-sister. What she finds instead is an ex with super-powers, monsters and demigods on the streets, and a detective ready to bring her in for a murder investigation…or three. Can Nicola become the hero she needs to be, or will she lose everyone she cares for? ** Review "What a thrilling adventure! Sarah Buhrman masterfully weaves the mythos of the Norse Pantheon into the chaos that is the modern world with exceptional care, skillfully crafting the story so if you're not careful, not only will you eagerly turn each page to find out dangers lie ahead, you just might learn something along the way! Realistic magic, authentic mythology, horrific monsters , and heroes - both reluctant and legendary - along with a generous dash of science, coalesce to provide you with a quest you will be elated you accepted." ~ Kyrja, Author of the Gatekeeper's Choice series "Strong characters wrapped in a killer story. A definite must read!" ~ M. R. Sellars, Author of The Rowan Gant Investigations and Special Agent Constance Mandalay Novels I won this book in a giveaway and I must say I did enjoy it I loved the cover, the story plot line was very interesting with lots of drama, the only thing I found that I thought needed a bit more clearer explanation on was the details of the gods like Odin I'm not very familiar with them so it came across a bit muddled for me. I did like the uniqueness of the physic and pagan myths and powers all in all I liked it and do recommend to others and thank you Sarah Buhrman I loved the bookmarker and card! - Melissa Rothman goodreads.com/review/show/1757925023 I really liked the characters in this especially the main character Nicola and her best friend Joseph. Although Nicola is the one who has to step up and be the hero; all good heroes need help. Obviously I enjoyed the all the magic and mythology too. It made me laugh (in a good way) that the ex with super powers was called Keith (such a none scary name) - Amanda Steel, Goodreads goodreads.com/review/show/1796269760 From the Author The Runespells series is a work of fiction, but like all fiction, it has a basis in fact. The Runespells are taken from the Hávamál, which is part of the Poetic Eddas said to be the words of Odin himself. The Eddas are historical texts based on the oral and written works of the many, varied peoples of Northern Europe, often called Vikings or Norsemen. According to the Hávamál, Odin hung himself from the world tree, Yggdrasil, for nine days and nights. Staring into the well of knowledge at the base of the tree, he saw 18 symbols, the Elder Futhark Runes. Each of these was described as being a spell with specific traits. I adopted these descriptions to create the concept of the Runespells, pendants that act as a physical manifestation of the spells for each of the runes. As a socially aware member of society, I try to imbue each of my stories with real issues that people face every day. From homelessness, to brainwashing, PTSD, race and LBGTQ+, these issues are presented with as much honesty and understanding as I can convey. While I may fail at times, I believe that normalizing non-white, non-neurotypical, cis-het characters who face normal, and even mundane, problems is important to our social growth.
