Marianne: A Sense and Sensibility Sequel
About this item

Marianne is the fifth in what Publishers Weekly called "McVeigh's celebrated series". The series sprang from McVeigh's curiosity about how the characters in Pride and Prejudice might interact with those in Emma etc.... Her last two - Darcy and Pride and Perjury - were each chosen as one of seven finalists in the UK Selfies Book Awards at the London Book Fair (out of the 200,000 novels published in the UK, in both 2024 and in 2025). Altogether, her novels have won over 55 book awards. McVeigh's style has been claimed as "pitch-perfect" (Publishers Weekly) and herself as having a "brilliant command of Austen's diction and tone" (Kirkus Reviews). However, in Marianne, she has allowed her Austenesque social satire a more romantic cast.

Marianne sees Mrs Brandon returning to London for the first time since having been widowed. She is as beautiful and impulsive as ever – but, as she is now also wealthy, she is much sought-after, despite her resolve to remain single. When her dramatic younger sister comes to stay, she has still more to deal with. In a shocking twist, Margaret Dashwood finds herself on trial, and Marianne in need of every friend they have... including the charismatic Henry Crawford – and John Willoughby, himself.
